Between Worlds -concept posts

The beginning is the best place to start with anything.

I began creating this story when I was 16. Now when I say this story, I mean a totally different story about a magical chosen one schoolgirl with a cat buddy who gets her fast food and provides general support as she runs from an evil corporation of evil while unwittingly seducing 3 male counterparts (two from the evil corporation of evil  )

So, okay, not the same story at all. But this was when I began creating one big story that I wanted to take over the world with. It involves a few of, who in my heart, are the same characters in the current Between Worlds (Which I shall shorten to BW as I always do in conversation X3)

Main character being a young gal by the name of Juno (which I shortened to Jun, cos thats like super kewl and was the name of someone in Tekken..) who was NOT a mary sue at ALL! She just had wings and an evil mother and also an evil twin called Ruby who had black har instead of blonde and SO WHAT if every bish who came across her fell hopelessly in love with her and must follow her on her journeys and hand her copious gifts (seriously, at the end of this comic, there was an entire room full of chocolates from one particular suitor) ahem… so yes, a totally rounded and flawed character was Jun… :$ whut… why you lookin at me like that

BAAH! okay, so everyone has to have a mary sue at the beginning of their story writing career haha! I feel people should be unafraid to embrace the mary sue at first, and just have fun! So what if it’s fulfilling your deep desires for rooms full of chocolate, at least its a story.

Here are a few pages of my first lil comic

Between Worlds comic early draft pages

Note the misuse of MAWNGAH symbolism, popping veins for EVERYONE! alls I knew was that was what tha manga peoples did, so thats what I was gonna do.

Two dark, suited and mysteeerious men who are totally not the Turks from FF7 are here to take away a girl with a mysteeerious birthmark!? but I am a girl with a mysterious birthmark! OH NOES!

I MUST ESCAPE THIS PAGODA THAT I LIVE IN! break out the ninja woman gear all girls have! lets go typically named japanese cat!

Aye yai yai, okay so now I feel exposed XD

Tune in next times for more confessions of past comics :3

Expo Aftermath

Well we have all just about recovered from the London MCM Expo and it’s safe to say we all had a fantastic time! It was absolutely packed to the brim with cosplayers, artists and punters and we met a whole load of great people.

The weater was absolutely sweltering, and it was much the same inside the hall on the Saturday with people everywhere.

It was far quieter on the Sunday and we got to take in more of the exhibitors and generally arse about!

We’re looking forward to (hopefully) the next expo in October, and anyone we didn’t meet, make sure to pop over to us then!

Thing report

Last Saturday was the THING in London a small press comics event. Sally and I represented IndieManga, and we shared a table with Caroline Parkinson.

Sadly due to a spot of bad luck we didn’t have any new titles but we did get a nice fresh run of Little Thoughts and Origins ( both now available again in the shop.). Our table was placed up on high by the stage, which meant we got a good view though we were a little out of the way. We were also right next to the panel area, but sadly we couldn’t really hear what was going on.

Sally brought some pretty things!

Sally brought some pretty things!

We ran into a number of familiar faces including Emma Viecelli, ITCH, and Denji . Denji had a new book out “ Far out Mantic”, which we all enjoyed very much. Sadly by the time I got there ITCH had run out of Leek and Sushi’s manga show. I had a good wonder and on Kate’s recommendation got some Scary go round which I am enjoying a lot, I also picked up a selection of Bahala Na!, Chloe Noonan Monster Hunter and a cute mini comic about a blue tack dog. I am also grateful to the folks at Turnus for informing me about the website for the new Red Dwarf. Sadly their new book didn’t make it in time for the Thing, so I couldn’t take a look. I also picked up the adorable Microwavable Fox by Tammy Taylor.

Looks of panels we only heard about 1/3 of everything from our table

Lots of panels we only heard about 1/3 of everything from our table

The Thing was an interesting event, there was a steady flow of visitors around the event and as is normal there were high spots and low spots. We did manage to sell a few books and got to chat to some nice people. For maximum after vent coverage I went for an Indian meal, and Sally had the pub covered.

We could see all

We could see all the con from where we were. But there was a pillar in the way.

We’re here we’ve launched! Now I bet you want to know all about our first book ” Origins” which will be launched at Birmingham International Comics Expo October 4th & 5th! (Then available on-line in October hooray!) The book is approximately 100 pages and features the following exciting things:
